The Future Of Science And Collaboration

Blitz collaborated with HOK to consolidate five different AstraZeneca companies formerly distributed throughout the San Francisco Bay Area into a single facility in the Cove at Oyster Point. Blitz focused on the strategy planning, programming and concept design for a program including office, laboratory, lab support, and amenity space.

Through a series of client interviews and discovery exercises the idea of putting the science on display through transparent, integrated lab, office and public spaces was established. Health and wellness of AstraZeneca’s people takes a front seat throughout, with strategies including adjustable desks with ergonomic chairs, treadmill-equipped team rooms, an on-campus gym and on-site pantries with organic food options. Supporting their collaborative culture, employee hubs on each floor were conceived to promote social interaction, with a central stairway to encourage connectivity across departments.

Reinforcing AstraZeneca’s commitment to becoming energy-, carbon- and water-neutral by 2025 an aggressive goal of LEED-CI Platinum certification was achieved.
