Ryan Ranch creates an unforgettable Sonoma county experience.
SUSTAINABLE DESIGN THAT GROWS OUT OF THE LANDSCAPE
Nestled into the rolling hills of Sonoma County, Ryan Ranch is situated on a 600-acre cattle ranch located approximately 90 minutes north of San Francisco. The family-owned working cattle ranch has been managed and operated for over 130 years by six generations of the Ryan/Fitzpatrick family. With a passion for land stewardship and an eye towards diversifying their business operations with the new generation of land management, the Ryan family worked with Blitz to develop a conceptual design and feasibility study for a corporate retreat center and members-only shooting club.
Designed with an emphasis on simple, clean forms that gently grow out of the landscape. The structures inherent to the site and respect the incredible beauty of the existing geography. From the minute guests enter the property there is a palatable exhale as the stresses of urban life are left behind and the peace and community of the Ryan Ranch Retreat are embraced.

Ten private sleeping cabins overlook the sea with vistas of rolling hills and neighboring farms. Each private cabin provides spacious sleeping and living quarters equipped with a fireplace, mineral water hot tub, and luxury bedding. The exterior stretched fabric canopy pays homage to Jeanne Claude and Christo’s “Running Fence” installation of 1976 which stretched across the property on its 25 mile journey. West-facing floor-to-ceiling windows and expansive wooden verandas blur the lines between indoors and out.
Guests enter the resort at the main Clubhouse which houses the concierge/reception, state-of-the-art business center, and fine dining spaces. A large wrap-around deck provides a balance of outdoor space for receptions and evening social hours as well as spectacular views to the Pacific Ocean.
Designed for sensitivity to the site, the cabins skirt the adjacent tree grove and follows the natural topography of the hillside. Additionally the project includes many sustainable features such as geothermal heating, solar and wind power generation, rain-water catchment and use of locally sourced and renewable materials for the construction. All vehicles used on site for guest transport are electric and the food and beverage programs use products exclusively from the Bay Area.
As part of the corporate retreat functions, Ryan Ranch will feature a variety of team-building activities including a skeet shooting arena, hiking trails, picnic areas, outdoor bar, fire pit, star-gazing and a nature observation gallery. A full-service artillery salon will provide even the causal shooter access to the best equipment to use out on the range.
