Modern zen that spans oceans.

When Zendesk came to us they needed offices that would accommodate their rapidly expanding global business without sacrificing the core qualities that represent their brand: airy, humble, charming and uncomplicated.

We began our engagement with their San Francisco headquarters and created a space that feels light and open, but also varied and textured. Some spaces are smaller, darker, and afford more privacy. Other spaces are larger, brighter, and part of the open office environment. In addition, organic materials were selected to harmonize with the building’s current finishes and emphasize Zendesk’s humble beginnings. Using the San Francisco project as a playbook, we iterated and evolved the Zendesk built brand to four other locations across the globe.

“What a fantastic space! I’ve rarely walked into offices that reflect a company so well. This design brings together our Danish roots and our core brand principles – light, airy, humble, charming - into one beautifully simple space. We couldn’t be happier with the design team and our new workplace brand.”

Employing global brand continuity while respecting the local (and often historic) context is key to a successful Zendesk space.

Although each site follows the same design direction as the original San Francisco space, each also has its own personalized look and feel. For example, since Dublin experiences gloomy weather from time to time, it was especially important for us to find ways to maximize daylight access and increase lighting levels when and where we could. In Melbourne the project takes cues from the great modern architecture while maintaining the integrity and original aesthetic of the historic Edwardian building.

“The historic building has many charming ornate details, particularly the window frames and existing ceilings. It was important to us that the design did not disregard the past but rather celebrate these elements (subtly). The design team was able to bring a clean, modern aesthetic into the space while respecting the building’s history.”
